My husband, who really does love his work(owner and baker of Herby’s Bake Shop) did not take one day of vacation during the summer…perhaps the thought of fighting vacationing crowds and traffic is a deterrent; since we are able to take a vacation during the less crowded time of year when school has started, we waited until “after the chagim”(holidays) to take a much needed R&R…Last weekend we had a scenic drive up to the Golan where we visited good “ol” friends who we knew from the “Old Country” of Memphis, Tn. where we had led a Chug Aliyah together…what a wonderful feeling to share a quiet Shabbat reminiscing, talking about our children and grandchildren who are growing and blossoming in our own country….With all of the problems and pressures of living in Israel, it is a wonderful feeling to be facing challenges in our own land…
After a wonderful Shabbat, we drove down to one of my favorite vacation spots, the Ein Gedi Spa where we spent a most relaxing day. The healthy mineral water, mud and floating in the salt water helps worries to just float away!
Although us pensioners may not have a regular routine-my week can range from attending wonderful classes, to volunteering, to helping with grandchildren in addition to a bit of work(geriatric counseling)…there is something very strengthening about going to a new and different location…Especially with all of the stress that many of us are experiencing these days, it is good to just get out, with that “pepper spray” in hand for security!
